Heat Blocking Window Film

3M Prestige Window film in Portola Valley, California

Solar Art installed 3M Prestige Window Film to a home in Portola Valley, California! This homeowner had just recently moved into the home, which had existing window film installed. The customer didn’t like the existing window film because she felt it looked old and discolored. She spoke with the previous homeowner to learn more about why they chose to have window film installed and she learned it was for heat and glare issues. The new homeowner could see why heat and glare would be an issue, since this is a really large home and has a lot of big glass windows throughout it. The new homeowner agreed that window film would be needed for this home because they wanted to keep the home as cool as possible, without covering up the glass or losing any of their views. Since the homeowner didn’t like the look of the existing window film, the customer did some research on window film companies in their area to learn more about the different options they have for their home! In their research they came across Solar Art’s website and decided to reach out for a free window film quote!

Solar Art's Goals

Solar Art’s goals for every project are to learn exactly what the customer is looking for and to help them find a window film solution that will fix the issue or problem they are experiencing. Our sales representative met the customer at the home to not only take a look at the windows, but to also take a look at the existing window film. His goal was to learn what the customer didn’t like about the existing window film and then suggest window films they might like better and to show them samples. The homeowner told our sales representative that they didn’t like the color of the existing window film. The homeowner was interested in learning more about solar films that will help reduce heat and reduce glare, but have a more clear look to them. From there, our sales representative started showing the customer different solar films they might like a little better than their existing one. Our other goal was to remove the existing window film without damaging the glass. Often times we get asked by our customers if they can remove the window film themselves. The answer is technically, yes, you can, but we don’t recommend it. Scraper blades are the tools that are used, and as you can imagine, it’s very easy to scratch the glass. Our team of installers is trained and are professionals in this area, so we always suggest our team does the removal of the window film.

Solar Art's Suggestions

When it comes to solar film, you have a ton of different options. Different window films provide different benefits. Some reject higher amounts of heat and some have different looks. Our sales representative suggested any window film in the 3M Prestige line. He suggested this line because they are all high performing window films that will all significantly help with the heat and glare issues. The 3M prestige line has low reflectivity, which will enhance your views instead of blocking them and will increase overall beauty.  It doesn’t have a significant tint or color to it, which the customer expressed they liked. Another reason why our sales representative suggested Prestige window film is because it provides substantial glare and heat rejection, as well as energy savings.

What the Customer Chose

The customer ultimately decided to go with the Prestige 70 window film. The main reason why they chose this window film over any of the other ones in the Prestige line is because it is the clearest. The customer really wanted to be able to utilize their views as much as possible and not change the aesthetics or the look of the home. Prestige 70 window film blocks 50% of heat, 23% of glare and 99/9% of UVA and UVB rays. Blocking 50% of heat from entering the home is huge. It will make a significant difference in the temperature of the home. Reducing 23% of glare will also increase the comfortability in the house. No more annoying glare reflecting off TV or computer screens. An added bonus is that Prestige window film blocks 99% of UVA and UVB rays, which is the leading cause of sun fading. Blocking these ultraviolet rays will increase the lifespan of furniture, flooring and valuable belongings and protect them against the sun. The customer felt like this window film checked off all the boxes they were looking for and decided to move forward in having it installed to almost every room in their house!

Results of the Window Film Installation

Overall, Solar Art would say the results of the installation were a success! The customer found a window film that helped reduce heat and reduce glare without having to cover up the glass or lose any of their views. This installation ended up being 637 square feet of removal as well as 637 square feet of installation. It took three installers about one week to do the installation. Our operations manager decided to only put three installers on the job as to not disrupt the client at home. We asked Gregg, the sales representative that worked on this job, what his overall thoughts on the project were. He said, “the job looks great and the customer was really happy with the results of the installation.” That’s what we like to hear! A successful installation with a happy customer. In addition to Prestige window film and solar film, Solar Art also services decorative window film, custom graphics, anti graffiti film, window security film and exterior building wraps. We have offices up and down the West Coast and are equipped to travel anywhere in the country!
