Heat Blocking Window Film Installation at a Home in Santa Monica, California

Solar Art installed a heat blocking window film to a home in Santa Monica, California! Living in the Los Angeles area, you don’t typically get large backyards, but this house is different. They are lucky enough to have a large yard with trees that not only increase privacy, but they are also absolutely gorgeous. The homeowner loves the style of the house and the yard. They wanted to take advantage of it as much as possible. They have large floor to ceiling windows in nearly every room of the house to utilize their views as much as possible. While the large windows allow the customer to enjoy their beautiful backyard views throughout the home, they also allow in a lot of heat.

The house gets unbearably hot and the customer has to either deal with the heat or reach for the air conditioning for help. Neither are great options. You don’t want to be uncomfortable in your own home and you also don’t want your electricity bill to be through the roof. The customer was in search of a solution to help with the heat issue in their home. The customer is an architect who is familiar with windows and window films, so she decided to research window film companies near her to see if it might be a good solution for the home. She found Solar Art’s website and decided to reach out for a free heat blocking window film quote!

Solar Art's Goals

Our sales representative met the homeowner at the home to take a look at the windows and to learn more about what the customer is looking for exactly. The homeowner explained that they love the look of the windows and the view they provide, the heat is just unbearable. They were looking for heat control without losing the visibility out of the windows or the amount of light transmission they offer. Solar Art’s goals were just that. To find the customer a window film that will reduce the amount of heat that is being let into the home without losing visibility or the amount of light transmission. Our sales representative showed the homeowner a few different window film samples of options they might be interested in for their home. He explained the benefits of each and held the sample up to the glass so the homeowner could get an idea of what the window film would look like on their glass.

Solar Art's Suggestions

After meeting with the homeowner and learning what their goals for the project were, our sales representative showed the customer different heat blocking window films. When it comes to heat blocking window film and solar film, they all have different benefits. They each reject a different amount of heat and glare and they all look different. With that being said, he suggested either 3M Prestige 70 or Llumar 80. He suggested these solar films because they are going to significantly reduce the amount of heat that comes into the home and they both have low reflectivity. Having low reflectivity isn’t going to compromise any of their views into the backyard. If the homeowner chooses either of these films, they will still be able to fully see into the backyard and utilize their views in comfort.

What the Customer Chose

The customer went with one of our sales representative’s suggestions and chose to have the 3M Prestige window film installed to the glass throughout their home. The customer decided to go with this heat blocking window film instead of one of the others because it has a slightly higher solar energy rejection and higher infrared rejection. They wanted to reduce the maximum amount of heat as possible without compromising their views. 3M Prestige 70 blocks 50% of heat, 23% of glare, 97% of infrared rays and 99% of UVA and UVB rays. These ultraviolet rays are the leading cause of sun fading.

The customer can have peace of mind knowing that not only are they reducing the amount of heat that enters their home, they are also extending the lifespan of their furniture and belongs by protecting them from sun fading. 3M Prestige 70 provides substantial heat rejection and ultimately will provide energy savings, a lower electricity bill, and increased comfort. This heat blocking window film has no metals and has low reflectivity, which is why the views into the backyard will stay fully intact. It’s a win-win situation! The customer thought this window film was the perfect solution for their home and decided to have it installed to all of the glass throughout the entire home!

Results of the Window Film Installation

The results of this installation were a success! Solar Art was able to help the customer find a window film that would reduce the amount of heat entering the home, without compromising their beautiful backyard views. This installation ended up being 1,342 square feet of window film installed to different rooms throughout the entire home. It took two of our installers around two days to finish the installation. We spoke with Peter, our sales representative that worked on this job and asked him what his thoughts on the job were as a whole. He said, “Overall, the project went well. I believe the customer chose the right product for what they were trying to achieve.”

The homeowner let Peter know they are loving the window film and can already feel the cooler effects! She also told Peter they are super happy with the results! That’s what we like to hear! Overall this was a great project and we are so happy we were able to help this customer find a heat blocking window film that will make their home more comfortable! In addition to heat blocking window film and solar film, Solar Art also services decorative window film, custom graphics, anti graffiti film, window security film and exterior building wraps throughout the entire west coast.
