Believe it or not, how to keep birds from flying into windows is a pretty common question we get here at Solar Art, because it happens all the time. In both residential and commercial settings birds don’t see glass and fly right into it. With that being said, we installed bird strike window film to Pechanga in Temecula, California. There are large glass panes in the front of the building that birds kept running into. Pechanga wanted to find a way to stop this from happening without having to remove the glass completely. They did research online and saw that there is actually bird strike window film that is designed to be a distraction and will help prevent birds from flying into the glass. Solar Art does work with Pechanga a lot, so they reached out to us to see if we could help them with this project!
Bird strike window film is engineered so that birds see a reflective window, making it really visible to them, but is otherwise practically invisible to anyone else. This prevents not only birds from getting injured, but it also protects your property as well. Decorative Films carries a few different patterned bird strike window films that work great for both homes and offices. For this particular installation, the customer was looking for something more custom. As you can see in the photo, there are leaf-like metal designs at both ends of the glass panes. The customer wanted to keep with the theme of that and were hoping to create a custom bird strike window film with leaves in it. Our in house graphics team worked with the customer to make it happen. We ended up creating a custom print of the leaves out of gloss ink. The photos shown here are one normal picture of the glass panes and one zoomed in photo. You have to really be looking to even see the film at all. The gloss ink is clear, which means it isn’t going to obstruct views or change the aesthetics whatsoever. Customers probably won’t even know it’s there, but it will protect birds from flying into windows. The bird strike window film just like all other window film, can be removed with no damage to the glass whatsoever.
