Solar Art installed skylight window film to the Westfield Mall in Santa Ana, California! The mall has a ton of skylights that are great in the sense that they let in natural light and keep the mall looking bright and welcoming all day. One major downside to these skylights is the amount of heat they let through. The customer was looking for a window film that would reject the maximum amount of heat as possible. Keeping the air conditioning set low for that big of a space costs them a fortune so they were looking for anyway to make the building energy efficient to help reduce electricity bills and keep workers and shoppers in the mall comfortable. They reached out to Solar Art to learn what different window film options they had.
One thing to keep in mind when it comes to skylights is what they are made of. Often time skylights are made out of plexiglass, which certain window films cannot be applied to. There is a special window film that can be applied to plexiglass so it is important to know what your skylights are made of. When it came to the Westfield Mall, Solar Art had a sales representative do a site visit to confirm the skylights were glass or plexiglass to ensure we get the right window film for the project. Once it was confirmed the skylights were glass, the sales team worked with the customer to find the window film that would best meet their needs for this project. Since they were trying to reduce the maximum amount of heat possible, they decided to have an exterior reflective window film installed. They had a Hanita solar film installed that rejects 77% of heat and blocks 99% of harmful UVA and UVB rays. The customer wasn’t worried about the reflective window film looking like a mirror window film or one way window film because it is on the roof and no one will be able to see it. The mall was extremely pleased by the outcome of the installation. They noticed a significant difference in temperature and said the mall was much more comfortable. Skylight window film can easily be removed with no damage to the glass surface if need be. In addition to skylight window film, Solar Art also services decorative window film, anti graffiti film, security window film, building wraps and custom graphics in Washington state and California.
