Skylight Tint Installation at a Home in Santa Monica, California

Solar Art installed skylight tint to a home in Santa Monica, California! The home has a large skylight in the family room. The skylight is great because it lets in a ton of natural light and makes the whole room really bright and welcoming. The homeowner also really liked the modern and clean aesthetics of the home because of the skylight. The customer didn’t mind the heat from the skylight, but glare and sun fading were becoming really big problems. You can actually see the glare on the skylight in the photo. It makes it really difficult to see the TV screen and computer screen, especially in the afternoon. The homeowner also noticed that their wood floors and their furniture is being sun faded when they were cleaning. They moved a rug and a few pillows and could see a noticeable difference in the coloring of their belongings. The customer obviously didn’t want to and couldn’t really get rid of the skylight, and drapes and blinds clearly wouldn’t work in this situation. The customer had heard of window film to help with glare and sun fading, but they weren’t sure if it would work for skylights. They were doing some digging online when they came across Solar Art’s website online and decided to reach out for a free quote!

Benefits of Skylight Tint

Skylight tint is tricky for a few reasons. The main reason is because while some skylights are made out of glass, most of them are made of plexiglass. Standard window film doesn’t adhere to plexiglass. There are however, a few window films that are made specifically for plexiglass. With that being said, it is really important to confirm whether or not your skylights are plexiglass so you know how to move forward. Another tricky part of skylights is access. Some skylights are really difficult to get to, which can affect if window film can be installed or not. When it comes to skylight tint, it’s crucial for our field estimator to go out and confirm what the skylight is made of and if we have access or not. Our field estimator met the customer at the home to determine these two things. He determined that the customers skylight is made of glass and we do have easy access, which is great! Since the skylight is made of glass, the customer isn’t going to be limited on their window film options and they can choose whichever one they like most. After seeing all of the different window film options, the homeowner decided they wanted to use 3M Prestige 40 for their skylight tint. This window film blocks 60% of heat, 55% of glare and 99% of UVA and UVB rays. Blocking 60% of heat and 55% of glare is going to make a significant difference in both the temperature and the comfort of the home. It is going to make watching TV and working on the computer so much easier. Those UVA and UVB rays I was just talking about are the biggest cause of sun fading. Blocking 99% of them is going to preserve and extend the life of the homeowners furniture and hardwood floors. In addition to skylight tint, Solar Art also services solar film, decorative window film, custom graphics, anti graffiti film, window security film and exterior building wraps throughout California and Washington State!
