Most solar film is installed on the interior of windows in both residential settings. In fact, the majority of the products are made for interior installation. However, exterior window tints are available for residential settings. Speak with a sales representative to see if interior window film or exterior window film is right for you!
The installation process starts by prepping the windows and moving things out of the way and thoroughly cleaning the windows. You then cut the film to the size of the window and spray the window down with water. After that you put the window film on the window and again, cut to size to make sure everything is aligned and fits right. You then squeegee all of the water out and allow up to 60 days for the film to fully dry. Solar Art recommends having a professional company do the installation to ensure the best results. Solar film generally lasts several years without fading. However, the location of the window film does play a factor. If you are in sunny locations like San Diego or Los Angeles, the window film might fade quicker than if you are in San Francisco or Seattle. The direction of the windows could also play a factor. If the windows are in direct sunlight the whole day, the window tint might fade quicker. Speak with a representative to learn more!
The drying process can sometimes take up to 60 days. If your newly installed window film shows evidence of water bubbles, don't panic, that is very normal and actually part of the drying process. The moisture gets trapped under the film and will evaporate as the film cures to the window over the drying period time. It is important to not touch or press on these bubbles as it will prolong the drying process and damage the film. Security is a topic that should never be taken lightly. Security window film is an added protection in the case of an intruder. Security window film helps strengthens glass by 2-3 times, which can prolong the amount of time it takes to get through the glass.
Yes! When it comes to security window film you can choose from a clear window film, a reflective window film and a neutral window film. With the optically clear window film you won’t even know it’s there. The reflective window film will look like a one way mirror and the neutral window film will have a tint to it. All of the options will reduce 99% of UVA and UVB rays.
You can double layer window security film, but Solar Art does not recommend it. Adding two layers on top of each other won't increase security, the warranty will be voided and the film won't look very good. If you are looking for added protection, you can install security window film on both the interior and exterior. Speak with a representative to learn more!
